Intern for a day in the MP’s office

On Thursday, June 8, the assistants of Bernard Généreux, MP for Montmagny—L’Islet—Kamouraska—Rivière-du-Loup, welcomed Justine Morin, a Grade 6 student at École des Tilleuls in Saint-Pierre-de-la-Rivière-du-Sud, to the office. She was there to discover what goes on behind the scenes in a politician’s riding office.

First, she met with regional manager Annie Francoeur, who showed her in general how a constituency office operates, how the MP’s schedule is managed and what confidential services are provided to residents. With administrative assistant Annie Boutin, she was able to get a sense of the huge volume of correspondence the MP has to deal with and the importance of flawless client service. With the help of communications assistant Mireille Soucy, she familiarized herself with the various social media that the MP uses; together, they wrote this news release.

“I enjoyed this internship very much, because I was able to see that the public doesn’t know about the work done by Mr. Généreux and his team. I was amazed by the number of communications platforms that Mr. Généreux uses to contact the residents of his constituency. It makes me even more interested in becoming politically engaged in my community. I plan to study law so that I can eventually play an active role in our democracy,” said Justine Morin.

“When I visited Justine’s class in the spring at the invitation of her teacher, Isabelle Collin, I noticed how interested she was in how our society works. The students in her class selected her to go on this internship and report to them afterward. I think Justine has a great future ahead of her, and I encourage girls to take an interest in politics. I’d like to take this opportunity to invite young people to submit a request to visit our offices,” said Mr. Généreux.
